Two Questions to Ask About ALFs

Updated: May 27, 2020

When you, your siblings and your parents decide the time has come to move them from 100 percent independent living to a living facility that offers assistance, you’ll have a lot of questions that only in-depth research can answer. When you are researching assisted living facilities for your parent, or parents, there are some questions that absolutely must be answered before you can even go to look at the facility. We’ll go over many of these questions in this, and future, blogs.

Is it the right level of care?

Different medical needs are met by different levels of facilities. Our goal, in the end, is to keep elderly people out of nursing homes, by giving them the assistance they need to maintain good mental and physical health as long as possible. Assisted living residents often need some help with dressing and bathing, as well as getting to the bathroom at night. They are also often recipients of other medical services, such as rehab physical therapy.

Who owns it?

You need to decide if you want your mother or father in a retirement community that is owned by a for-profit corporation or a non-profit entity. Ashton Place is a family run assisted living facility and we oversee the running of it. We are only one of three ALF’s in the area. Our owner is also a licensed nurse. In addition, we are the only three assisted living facilities in Sarasota with an Extended Congregate Care license.
